Synopsis/Details
Orienzo, a shy, funny and awkward thirteen-year-old boy, has a crush on Anna Maria, an intelligent girl he often sees in the only female class in the school. In his only attempt to relate to her, he ends up in a fight with a group of bullies. After a few similar episodes, Orienzo receives disciplinary punishment and temporary suspension from school. Orienzo's parents, a cold-hearted couple of farmers, force him to work the land as punishment. They then allow him to attend school only once a week. Orienzo is the third of three children and suffers from a distant relationship with both his parents and his siblings. Luca, the older brother, is about to get married while Sestore, the second-born, works the fields with his parents. In 1920, the rapid spread of artificial intelligence and robotic tools in the workplace gives rise to anti-technology movements which are also present in homes. The agricultural sector is ready to rise up. Orienzo ends up at a rally of revolutionary exponents who have come from all over Europe to lead the revolt in Italy too. Orienzo, like all the boys present, does not understand the risks and actually finds it all hilarious. Orienzo's far-sighted teacher understands the boy's relational problems and real potential and gives him a smart alarm clock to help him with his studies. Orienzo, initially wary, establishes a real friendship with the friendly and funny alarm clock which becomes his mentor. Only with the help of the clock radio does Orienzo apparently overcome his difficulties, defeat the bullies at school and win over Anna Maria with whom he escapes from the sad and oppressive country where now they only talk about revolution, forgetting, blinded by love, about the clock radio, the only "person" who understands him. The uprisings begin and Orienzo's family also participates by getting rid of all the technology including the clock radio. During the escape, Anna confesses to Orienzo that she wants to return home, she is not ready to leave her family and friends, above all she wants to continue her studies being like him privileged to be able to do so. Her farewell makes Orienzo mature and he understands that he has abandoned the alarm clock. Orienzo returns home heartbroken, discovers that the clock radio is not lost but dying in the attic impossible to repair. The alarm clock forgives him and turns off forever. Orienzo loses the only thing that loved him unconditionally. He decides to take part in the revolutionary movements but on the opposite side and decides to sabotage the shutdown of all the machines in his city planned by the farmers.

The Writer: Nicola Arpino

Hi there! I am Nicola Arpino, a 27-year-old Italian actor and aspiring filmmaker living in a small town, Senigallia. I'm working to learn my craft, to improve my skills both as an actor and director. I studied acting but I am a self-taught director. I had no clue about what it meant to shoot and ultimately to produce a movie, since acting on stage with a given screenplay has always been my comfort zone. Here is the thing: if you want to shoot something, even in a "solo-filmmaker-zero-budget-using-only-a-smartphone" fashion, you need a fundamental object, which is a screenplay. At this time, I had just finished editing (yes, you must also edit your own stuff) my third short film and I just… Go to bio
