Synopsis/Details:

"From the Shadows to the Sun" will immerse you in the Syrian conflict from the perspective of a YPJ soldier, who abandons her post to rescue her sister from ISIS remnants. Inspired by the John Ford classic 'The Searchers' this modern-day tale of hatred and redemption is imbued with my own research and experiences in the Middle-East. It offers an intimate insight into the traumatized mind of a soldier and the continuing struggle of a people with no country to call their own. A dark and unforgiving narrative, it's the second part of a trilogy exploring conflict in the region; the first being SINJAR, an all-out war feature that's been well received on the competition circuit with a Finalist and numerous SF placements.

*Due to the nature of the conflict, there are scenes that some people may find unsettling.*

The Writer: B. Jack Azadi

I spent a decade in conflict zones with the Army and as a CPO/Security Consultant. When ISIS tore through Iraq in 2014 I was assigned to an international news team documenting the terrorist group's expansion and the near-genocide and enslavement of the Yazidi people... Not long after, I found myself in uniform again as a volunteer in the Kurdish Army. On my return home I started writing... My latest feature— FINGERNAIL EXPRESS —is a crime drama/neo-western in the vein of Hell or High Water & Thelma and Louise. Go to bio
