Adam Jackson, a talented detective with years of experience under his belt, comes across a strange situation after a series of creepily informative anonymous types. These calls lead him to a strange young man, Mathew, claiming to have gained his knowledge through a magical ability to read minds. Looking into his past brings up all sorts of inconsistencies and red flags, as in the past, Mathew has run into trouble due to his habit of mind reading, which others have called "lying". Jobless, nearly homeless, and with a shameful educational background, Mathew seems to have every reason to lie. Skeptical of Mathew's claims, but unable to deny the fact that every tip he had given him was spot on, Adam decides to give the stranger a chance. After his first set of tips led police to the body of a girl missing for over two years, Adam is hopeful that Mathew can prove to be an asset to his investigations in the future. Despite the skepticism of his fellow detectives, Adam decides to take a chance and make use of him. Working with the police department, Mathew helps to solve countless cases, eventually proving his abilities to Adam and the viewers. The first of which involves the murder of a little girl that had been haunting Adam. Using his gift, Mathew is able to take advantage of the murderer's weak mental state and get a shocking confession. After earning an official job within the department, Mathew continues to work with Adam while also building a relationship with the other employees, particularly Skai, a black female detective that has been motherly to him from the beginning. With every successful case, Mathew slowly evolves from the meek and pathetic man the viewers were introduced to, to a man who knows his place in the world. Together, Mathew and Adam take on every challenge, growing in both their careers and their budding relationship.
