Synopsis/Details
Iraq war veteran and helicopter pilot Leilani Kamuela returns to her home on the Big Island of Hawaii where she struggles to reintegreate into family life. She works for her ohana "uncle" at a local helicopter tour company, specializing in flying industrial missions to deliver goods and equipment to high altitude scientific sites on Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea volcano. When the island is rocked by earthquakes, unprecendented volcanic activity, and unnatural cave-like sinkholes that devour people and buildings, Leilani teams up with a group of local and international scientists, and a wealthy geothermal developer, to figure out what's going on and find a way to stop the destruction. Along the way, Leilani is called upon by family members and Pele, the goddess of fire, who show her that the island is actually being consumed by a monster from outer space. Now she must decide whether to enlist the aid of ancient Hawaiian gods and spirital power, or go along with the scientists' plan to detonate subterranean nukes.
