Synopsis/Details
Brief Synopsis
Josephine is a young nurse of Haitian origin, clever, watchful, and attentive to details. In an ordinary hospital situation, she figures out that something is wrong.
Her patient (Thomas) dies from his second heart attack, but his death smells of crime and even a bit of voodoo. Josephine suspects Geoffrey, his son-in-law, and at the same time, his company chief security officer. With only a few pieces of information she has and using some open-source intelligence data, she figures out that Thomas Enterprises is about to enter a merger deal with an international holding that is only a cover for dirty Russian money seeking a safe refuge in the US.
Josephine’s father (Bertrand) is Haitian - this helps her to understand that Geoffrey, also a Haitian, is just an infiltrated agent of the clan of former Macoutes who now help Russian war criminals to set up money laundering in the US. Josephine figures out that Tracy, the only daughter of Thomas and wife to Geoffrey, is in peril and is the one to be taken out next. She decides to help Tracy and asks Bertrand to use his connections - he has run off from the Macoutes and moved to the US long ago.
Bertrand is involved in a human trafficking network that helps people hide from dirty cops, false accusations, and real criminals - but this is, of course, illegal. Now, Bertrand helps Tracy to disappear. She goes to Mexico with a fake ID he has provided.
Albert (the FBI agent) suspects everybody of everything. He is involved in the investigations on this merger deal - but the FBI wants the deal closed to nail down all parties. For his boss (Ana), who puts a lot of pressure on Albert, Tracy being innocent or dead is not important. The only thing that matters to Ana is the “really big thing” she is after.
Albert is shocked by Josephine’s ability to see complicated things clearly and make the right assumptions, and he wants more intelligence on her. Still, he makes a mistake consulting with Bob - a corrupt head of the local police office. Bob works for Geoffrey and immediately sells Josephine and Bertrand to the Macoutes.
Bertrand imitates his death with some voodoo practices, and this fools Geoffrey. Albert makes a tough choice - now he wants to help Josephine, Bertrand, and Tracy but does not know how exactly. However, Josephine is the one who develops a plan. Tracy risks returning to Geoffrey, fools him and Bob, poisons them with some voodoo brews, and sets up their death as Bertrand has taught her - just as Geoffrey killed Thomas at the beginning of the movie, leaving no evidence of the murder.
Now Josephine is the leader of the small group that also includes Albert, Bertrand, and Tracy. Taking Geoffrey and Bob off the chessboard is only the beginning of their activity. Growing chemistry between Albert and Josephine promises an interesting development, while the huge international issue of dirty Russian money remains unsolved.
