PRESENT AND PAST TIME STORIES HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME
STORY -1 – FUTURE TIME -YEAR 2021
Due to a chemical accident in a biological weapons laboratory, a new gaseous substance has spread into the atmosphere and it had seriously diminished the oxygen levels in the air, lowering the oxygen concentration to a non-acceptable percentage for supporting life on earth.
In somewhere on the coast of The United States of America, a biologist (DOCTOR WIGHT) is isolated in a house-laboratory. He is analyzing samples of dead fish, dead animals, algae, sand, seawater and even his own saliva and breath in order to determine the molecular formula of this new and lethal chemical element.
One night, after a hard day’s work at the laboratory, Doctor Wight becomes very sad and hopeless. Although his works are on the verge of becoming successful, he knows it is very late to revert the situation, because a long time has passed since the formation of this new chemical element and because of its constant changes produced by the unforeseeable external reactions, such as the climate, biotic processes, variations in solar radiation, extreme wind speed, parts-per-million of toxic heavy metals, metalloids and other pollutants. He believes that would be the human extinction.
That night, Doctor Wight is disconsolate and melancholy . He goes to sleep. He has a strange dream in which he sees a schoolboy who is isolated at the school backyard. The boy’s eyes have a very intense and sensitive way of looking.
Doctor Wight looks at the boy’s eyes for a few seconds and suddenly he wakes up abruptly, coughing and panting for breath. He has in his mind the boy’s eyes and face. He feels himself encouraged, relaxed and in some way, inexplicably hopeful. From that day on , Doctor Wight dreamt about the boy nearly every day. Oddly, he has a strong influence on the boy’s thoughts and at a given moment, he is able to make the boy receive and draw his messages with images of the chemistry symbols he is working on. While dreaming, he visualises a very fast successions of intersperse images of a past time before the environmental disaster. He sees the boy drawing the chemistry symbols on the margins of a book. That book is Five weeks in a balloon, by Jules Verne. (The book has a black ink stain on its cover)
Both the boy and Doctor Wight are strongly connected by sharing the same two passions: Jules Verne and the hot air balloons.
STORY -2- PRESENT TIME –YEAR 2009
Jules, a nine years old boy, starts having concentration problems at school. Jules tells his mother he has a friend from the future who is very sad and asked him to do some drawings. Although Jules mother thinks that Jules concentration problems are because of the domestic violence they suffer every day from Jules father (her husband) she decides to go to talk to the school psychologist in order to tell her about, Jules imaginary friend from the future and the drawings. The school psychologist tells Jules mother that she would talk to Jules. Then the psychologist asks Jules’ mother about those drawings. Jules mother says to the psychologist she would bring the drawings. At one point that night after having a heated argument with her husband in which he slapped her, she decides to escape with Jules. They run away for good from the house. Jules has no time to get his book (with the drawings) Five weeks in a balloon, that he has hidden somewhere in his room.
STORY -3- PRESENT TIME YEAR 2009
LEO WELF , a young biologist, has been awarded a scholarship to go to The United States of America in order to work on his thesis. The University Dean, warns him about the environmental disaster is happening, the respiratory and lung diseases people are suffering and the proximity of the focal point to the university he will stay, where there is not oxygen at all. Leo decides to go in order to help. He was a brilliant student.
A few days before leaving, Leo’s girlfriend buys him a book as a present in a second hand book shop. The book is Five weeks in a balloon, by Jules Verne. It is Jules book (with the same black ink stain on its cover) with all the chemistry symbols of the molecular formula of the unknown gas which caused the disaster.
The book has been wrapped with transparent cellophane and the drawings (chemistry symbols) remain intact.
