In 1861, Katy is the most beautiful hostess in Lincoln's Washington She dances with William Sprague, her father Salmon P. Chase and Abe Lincoln. Lincoln and Seward discuss Bull Run. Abe hears of Mary Lincoln's latest seance. Millionaire Sprague marries her and he is elected to Congress. But drink does him in and he loses his fortune. Katy divorces him and endures hard times. In 1899, she sells apples to Theodore Roosevelt on the White House steps.
