Synopsis/Details
EMMI is a peppy nine year old in love with the sport of LASER RACING and even more in love with one of her town’s biggest stars GHOSTER (Cameron). Emmi’s mom, KARALYN, is sick and they struggle for money, though Emmi has deeply seeded dreams of being not just a skater, but the best there ever was. KINGSTON is a businessman with plans to create and exploit a bigger Laser Racing market with Mr Daly’s old facility. Daly is happy to sell the place to make some money, though Kingston wants his help running the place and getting the Laser Racing mainlined into the local scene. Jet, Tripp, and Lacey discuss the rules for Kingston’s league - forming teams, the different age groups, and the sponsors they have to accrue. This is Emmi’s chance to shine, so she and Karalyn buy a pair of skates for her so she can try out. Nobody wants to join Jet’s team DragonRush, all the kids in the different age groups want to sign up to try out for Ghoster’s team. Cameron selects a boy named LIAM to join his team, named Phoenix, crushing Emmi who wanted nothing more than to race for him. Jet offers Emmi the chance to race with DragonRush, as he watched her pour her heart and soul into her race for Phoenix. Phoenix begins training, and Emmi, along with TRUBBLE (Casey), learn all kinds of fundamentals to skating - how to fall, how to increase speed, how to maintain balance, etc. Emmi wants to bite off more than she can chew - go fast, put on boosters, as an example - but Jet tells her she will get there when she is ready. Emmi meets KIA (Lady Rampage) of whom she is a big fan. As all the other teams train their new skaters, Jet confides in Emmi that he is struggling to find sponsors so he has not been able to order their uniforms yet. Karalyn sits Emmi down and tells her there are going to be some changes coming, she went to the doctor and the news is not great. This puts Emmi in a melancholic mood just as a practice race match is held at the skate arena. In an intense and high speed race, Emmi comes out the winner, beating Liam who beat her when she first tried out for Phoenix! Liam is nasty toward Emmi, learning from his team captain how to be a bully, telling her she just got lucky. Orion beats Lacey in the older group race, which upsets Orion because he does not want Lacey to hate him. It is revealed that Jet has not secured sponsors for the DragonRush Karalyn brings in a woman named MRS. ROSA to help them out, and eventually Emmi hears Karalyn talking to her about not wanting to put Emmi into foster care. Karalyn gives chase, but Jet talks to her about how everything is going to be okay since she has a team that is going to support her no matter what. Next comes a montage of Emmi and Karalyn enjoying their time together, playing games, reading, eating meals with Mrs. Rosa. Back at the arena, Cameron takes it too far in his bullying of Emmi and Jet approaches him over it. After Cameron calls him nothing but a loser, Jet punches him in the face, even Orion thunders at his team captain about how he is nothing more than a greater skater. After a Laser Racer meet and greet, Cameron and his crew apologize to Emmi, only to be picked up by Mrs. Rosa - Karalyn has died. Now Emmi is not able to skate and Jet has to find a back-up skater, while it also comes to the surface that Jet was adopted and lived with Orion for a while. Before the big race, Emmi shows up ready to skate! The race begins and it is Emmi’s most intense one to date, but Liam, of all people, gives her a boost to beat Christopher and win. Orion wipes out in his race, though he is asked by Lacey if he is okay. The last race is the showdown everybody is there to see: Ghoster vs. Jet. In a wild race filled with contact, pushing, and shoving, Ghoster is given the option of choosing his opponent in the pit - of course he chooses Jet. In the next round, Casey beats Lulu, bringing up Emmi and Christopher again in a race that nearly knocks them both out, ending in a tie finish. Once the judges look at it it is revealed Christopher won by a hair. Emmi tells Jet Ghoster’s tactic to take him out after the tunnel, and Jet rides his race to a win - though everybody learns they are frenemies now. Mrs. Rosa takes Emmi to her foster family where it is revealed the KAREN and DOUGLAS’S foster son is revealed to be...Jet! She won’t have to stop racing after all!

The Writer: Jennifer Coots

Freely doing things that call to me. Writing, Creating, Art... -- Writing has been one of the most loud speaking things that has followed me throughout this life. Novels, self-help books, and short stories abound... and screenwriting followed not too far behing that. The actual formatting of that was learned maybe later than I would have liked, but meh... I made it. There's no race. I'm always on time. I lean strongly towards animation and fantasy, and find it fun to delve into family comedy and horror from time to time. Written five full length features and two shorts thus far. Have a few lingering in the land of 'outlining'... but truthfully only appreciate the scripts that write… Go to bio
