Synopsis/Details
Will and James have been friends for years, despite the fact that they have begun to grow apart. One night, out of the blue, James shows up at Will's place. While the two drink beer and talk about how things have changed since college, something feels off. Finally, James admits that he came over for a different reason. A girl who he's been flirting with at work, Eva, made him a strange proposition: meet her at one of two locations at exactly midnight the following night. Since James doesn't want to mess up his chances with her, he plans to go to one location and he asks Will to go to the other. After some confusion and hesitation, Will agrees. Will stakes out one of the houses the following night. What he sees provides little clarity and, in fact, confuses the situation even more. He sees a girl through the window of the house who looks like the description he received of Eva, but she is there with another guy who doesn't appear to be James. Will leaves and checks the other possible location. There, he finds James' car outside, but the house otherwise appears to be dark and empty. The following day, Will calls James to find out what happened. James says he picked the right house and spent the night with Eva. He is ambiguous about the details, though. He claims the girl Will saw was a friend of Eva's and knows nothing about what she may have been doing. Will accepts these answers and goes back to being bored with his life. Before long, James stops by again and discusses his burgeoning relationship with Eva. While she appears to be interested in him, she is often mysterious and frequently brings up her ex-boyfriend. Suddenly, James receives a frantic call from her--from a friend's phone--about how her ex has stolen her phone. He quickly goes to calm her down. Will, becoming more and more suspicious that Eva is playing with James one way or another, follows James to her house. The next day, Will confronts James outside of the restaurant he works at, as he couldn't find James at Eva's house the night before. James is upset but tries to explain. He says he did go to Eva's, but they left quickly to confront her ex. Will is left further confused because he went back to the first house he visited and saw Eva with another guy. Late at night, Will goes back to the same house one last time. He snoops around, but the house is dark. Finally, he decides to call Eva's phone and get to the bottom of things. However, he soon hears ringing and finds her phone wedged under the seat of his car. Gaining some awareness that he is reading into things that aren't there, he drops her phone on the porch and drives off, wanting to be done with the situation. As he is driving away, a girl, likely Eva, appears looking through the window. She has presumably seen Will drop her phone off and drive away. However, in her mind, this was not Will but her ex, giving her one more piece of evidence to believe that he really has been stalking her.

The Writer: David Stephens

Since being a kid, I've always had creative impulses, ones that often manifest themselves in music and writing. Considering that I grew up listening to way too much heavy metal and watching way too many horror movies, most of that creative output has been dark and pessimistic in nature. After trying my hand at music for years (though, never completely giving it up), I now primarily spend my time teaching and writing short stories and poetry. A few years ago, a college friend of mine was getting into filmmaking and asked me to write a script for him, so I did. Due to a variety of unforeseen circumstances, he was never able to turn it into a short film, but I loved the writing process and am… Go to bio
