“The Mona Lisa” is a drama, romantic comedy, work of fiction based on the original story by William Holmgren. This is an imagined account with historical timelines, in the style of films such as “Titanic” and "Shakespeare in Love ". The story depicts a fictional love affair between the world’s first Renaissance man and the humble daughter of a silk merchant, later to be known to the world as the “Mona Lisa.” Highly rated on the BLACKLIST. Several Finalist Awards on Coverfly (Top 25%) 28-year-old prodigy Leonardo da Vinci has reached the pinnacle of fame across Renaissance Europe. Seeking real motivation, he sets his sights on finding true love, but to no his efforts fall flat. He has all but given up hope, until a chance encounter with a captivating young woman leads to romance and true inspiration. As Leonardo sets out on a quest for true inspiration, a manipulative Duke purchases da Vinci’s debt from his creditors and forces the artist into service at his court. The duke seeks to merely boost his reputation among his noble peers in Florence, Italy - he could care less about Da Vinci’s art. While in service, Leonardo meets Lisa Gheradini, the enigmatic daughter of Ludovico’s business associate. He is instantly captivated. A passionate romance blooms as Lisa is equally smitten by the charming artist. The pair keeps their love a secret to avoid the watchful eye of the devious duke. At 21 years of age, Lisa is the beloved only daughter of a silk merchant and his wife. Born into an era where men rule the world, she is strong-willed, highly intelligent, and equally beautiful. Lisa has many suitors, yet none as intriguing as the charming and charismatic Leonardo. Leonardo and Lisa are devastated when they learn that Lisa’s father, unaware of their romance, has betrothed his daughter to another. Having found inspiration to then only lose it, a heartbroken Leonardo pours himself into his work. On a creative spree of genius, he produces some of his most famous pieces. Years later, unbeknownst to his wife, Lisa’s husband secretly commissions her portrait to be painted by none other than the great Leonardo da Vinci. The former lovers are reunited in Leonardo’s studio in a crash of broken hearts and unsettled emotions, setting the scene for the creation of the famous painting. Before the portrait of Lisa can be completed, the clouds of war gather on the horizon. The actions of the reckless Duke have angered the neighboring French. In time, it becomes readily apparent that the self-absorbed duke has underestimated his adversaries as the French surround his estate and easily overtake him. Fate steps in, as it seems Leonardo’s reputation has preceded him. The French proudly present of offer of freedom and a place of high honor as artist at the court of the King of France. Leonardo never sees Lisa again but the inspiration her love ignited in his heart, endures for years. He continues to paint her image from memory for the remainder of his life. Prior to his death, he gifts Lisa’s portrait to the king of France prior to his death, where it hangs today in a place of honor as a testament to his eternal love and adoration for the love of his life.
