Synopsis/Details
Never Love Again
by Peggy Bruen WGAw
Inspired by Sophocles
DAVID, 26, a smart, savvy college grad living with his MOM and DAD, is offered a position in NYC by ex-girlfriend FINNA, 28, at Delphic Corp. With a hurricane fast approaching, David takes the risky drive to the interview.
David stops at a park to urinate. A bizarre altercation takes place when ALBERT, 70, limo driver of belligerent RYAN STUTZ, 60, and WEN YANG, 50, Ryan’s partner in crime, cruise through the same park. The limo clips David as he urinates on a landmark. David retaliates by throwing a rock, shattering the limo’s window. Ryan chases David up a rocky cliff. They fistfight. Suddenly, Ryan falls backward down the cliff and dies. Yang fires a gun, but the bullet hits Albert. David speeds away. Yang hides in the woods and shoots a video on his phone of David escaping, Albert gagging on the road, and Ryan’s body.
David arrives at the interview at Delphic, rattled. His heart skips a beat when he meets gorgeous DIANA, 42 in the hall. Finna and David reminisce. She introduces her fiancé CARL, 30, brother of Diana. David accepts the job offer as a Chemical Engineer. That night at home, David sees Ryan Stutz on the news as the CEO of Delphic, and Diana as his widow. David locks his doors and cries himself to sleep.
ZENA, 60, Ryan’s ex-wife/lawyer vows to find Ryan’s killer. Diana takes over Delphic and fires Zena. David hides his guilt and moves to the city, consumed by his new job.
Weeks later, Delphic is in ‘hot water’ with the EPA for contaminating water sources. David spends endless nights in labs. He creates a solution TDP that works to clean up Delphic’s water. The FDA approves TDP. Diana is enamored and takes David to dinner. They explore their sapiosexual chemistry.
Meanwhile, Yang extorts David for the TDP formula. He threatens to expose the video of David at the crime scene. David ignores the threat.
Soon after, Diana takes David on a romantic drive along the ocean. They have a blast, get physical, and out of the blue, David proposes marriage to Diana. Diana accepts! They marry and honeymoon in Greece. Diana makes David a partner in Delphic. He moves into the Stutz Estate.
After a while, to clear his dark past, David secretly travels to London to find Albert, the limo driver/witness. But luckily, Albert is already dead.
David, Carl and MARTIN, 45, Delphic’s lawyer, discuss the tactics of Yang extorting TDP. Carl suggests David talk to Zena. David knocks on Zena’s townhouse door. She engages David, then rudely exposes the fact that Diana and Ryan had a baby.
David confronts Diana about the baby. Diana confesses the truth of having a baby boy against an irrevocable trust, set up by Ryan’s father, to have no kids. Diana admits her regret in giving up her boy. David consoles Diana. He evens the playing field by coming clean with Diana about Ryan. They agree to keep their secrets.
Suddenly, David gets a call from his Mom. His Dad is dead. Diana and David rush to Mom’s side. Mom tells David a long-kept secret. David was adopted. That night, David and Diana sleep in Dad’s bedroom where David finds his adoption papers.
Next morning, Diana goes back to the office. David drives to an old church where he was adopted. After intense scrutiny, a Nun hands over his records. David calls Diana, confiding about his adoption; dates, agency, etc. On the estate, Diana searches Ryan’s old files. She is traumatized when she finds her son’s adoption certificate is from the same chapel. Same dates, same agency. Together, they thrash through the odds of this tragic coincidence. David and Diana realize the truth.
They are mother and son.
