Synopsis/Details
They say you sleep one-third of your life away...
If that's the case, Trevor Simms has a lot of catching up to do. The struggling writer, a chronic insomniac, embarks on a cross country train trip with his wife, Samantha, in hopes of starting a new life, and dreaming a new dream.
The journey begins on an ominous note as Victor, an unruly stowaway, is kicked off by conductors, causing a scene as he rants a vague but dire warning before being carted away.
Trevor and Samantha settle in, meeting jovial everyman Kowalski, hotheaded army vet Jesse, and the grandmotherly Miriam. Mr. Giles, an aloof businessman, two rows back, keeps his distance, seems to be watching them all, the way a scientist watches a lab rat.
Trevor tries to sleep, but in vain. Samantha advises him to take his meds, supplied by the clinic where he once took part in a sleep study, but Trevor resists, citing the horrible nightmares they seem to provoke.
Restless, he finds his way to the observation car, in the middle of the night. There, while trying to gather his thoughts, he witnesses strange lights out the window... Three UFO’s that put on a spectacular show in the night sky. An optical illusion? A hallucination? Or something else?
The next morning, the fields outside the windows are littered with mutilated cattle, and no one else seems to have noticed the lights, or seems willing to say so. Add to this a wide scale blackout in their wake, and it's clear to Trevor that a coordinated event is underway.
When Victor sneaks back on board at the next stop, Trevor runs into him, hearing more paranoid ramblings, including word of an impending alien invasion. But as the journey progresses, and the sightseeing becomes increasingly bizarre, Victor’s ravings are becoming less and less crazy to him.
When cops and FBI board, searching for Victor, Trevor covers for the fugitive, much to Samantha’s chagrin. The next night, More UFOs appear, leaving an awe inspiring field of crop circles behind, and causing Trevor to fully take up the troubled loner’s cause.
No one else, however, seems to bear witness to this escalating plethora of unexplained events, and by now, no one else believes him. Trevor appears very much to be a deranged conspiracy theorist, and a potential danger to everyone on board.
Interrogated by an FBI agent, Trevor’s fragile grip on reality fully loosens, changing everything he thinks he knows, about himself, his wife, and the true nature of his trip...
As his sanity slips away, Trevor must team with Victor to unravel the mystery and expose a wide ranging agenda with startling consequences for all.
