Synopsis/Details
When a long-estranged extra-terrestrial “relative” crashes back into the lives of an already dysfunctional family reunion, chaos erupts in their suburban home. Rex, a mischievous alien-human hybrid with a boyish appearance and a knack for trouble, is less than discreet about his return. His sudden presence forces Teddy — a plump, nerdy NASA engineer — and Kelly, his uptight sister, to manage the fallout while rehashing their own unresolved resentments. They’re joined by Mark, their reed-thin, disheveled older brother on the brink of self-destruction who is running from his crime boss; Dana, their free-spirited, globe-trotting mother with a hippie soul; and The Colonel (Dana's former lover), a fit, charismatic 75-year-old former Military Colonel who is still smarting over the collapse of his and Dana's relationship. Adding to the mayhem are Henry, Kelly's sassy teenage hacker son who is always glued to his laptop, and Lily, his younger, Karate-chopping sister who casually handles her pet python, and Carol, the nosy neighbour who seems determined to uncover the truth. As Rex attempts to “blend in” while flaunting his quirks, powers, and substance abuse issues — the family scrambles to cover up the spaceship crash in their backyard, dodge the authorities, and survive each other’s dysfunction. Beneath the farce, Operation Rex explores themes of belonging, unresolved trauma, and the impossible messiness of family ties — proving that family reunions are hard enough… without an alien.
