Synopsis/Details
During a perfect spring evening in Bologna, American ex-pat HENRIETTA discovers that the famous artist ALESSIA BONOLI has agreed to write her a letter of recommendation for art school. Her joy is tempered when she learns that her art thief boyfriend GIACOMO has taken Flight From The Hearth, the priceless painting he stole with his partner, RINALDO. When Rinaldo comes to reclaim the painting, he kills Giacomo and tries to strangle Henrietta, who is rescued by Alessia. Henrietta flees with Flight From The Hearth. In New York, Henrietta hides the painting in a storage locker belonging to her best friend KINSLEY. They go to Kinsley’s apartment, where her wealthy boyfriend SETH is cheating on her with his au pair EMILIA. Henrietta leaves and is accosted by the Countess, the painting’s original owner, and her henchmen. The building’s doorman JUSTIN spots the fracas and calls 911. The police save Henrietta, but the Countess gets away. Henrietta calls Kinsley, only to learn she and Seth have broken up and the key to the storage locker is in his apartment. Henrietta tries to convince Justin to let her into Seth’s place, but he won’t do it without permission. To avoid the Countess’ henchmen, Henrietta follows Justin to a party. She discovers that he is a talented composer whose work has caught the attention of celebrated conductor ARTHUR RUBENSTEIN. She also finds out Justin is still reeling from being dumped by BRIELLE two years earlier. When Henrietta is attacked by Rinaldo’s henchman AGOSTINO, Justin saves her. Justin and Henrietta bond emotionally and find comfort in each other’s arms. The next day, they go see Kinsley, who is upset Henrietta didn’t console her after her breakup with Seth. Rinaldo arrives in New York and goes to Seth’s apartment, where he and Emilia attack him and realize they both share a love of violence. Justin and Henrietta get caught in the middle of a battle between Rinaldo, Emilia and the Countess’ henchmen. Henrietta defends herself against Emilia by hitting her in the face with a wine bottle, scarring her permanently. Emilia is enraged at the loss of her beauty and vows to kill Henrietta in revenge. Justin and Henrietta go to Seth’s apartment. They learn Seth paid a moving service to empty the storage locker and take its contents to his house in East Hampton. The three of them travel there together. Seth manipulates Henrietta into cutting ties with Justin so he won’t get hurt, but she realizes her error and reconciles with Justin. Rinaldo, Emilia and the Countess’ henchmen descend upon the house at the same time. Rinaldo kills the henchmen, only to be murdered by Emilia, who is stopped by the Countess’ last underling. Henrietta discovers the Countess is a fan of the work of Alessia, who has come to intervene. Henrietta returns the painting to the Countess and receives her letter of recommendation from Alessia. Henrietta tells Justin she is returning to Italy and the two decide to get a good night’s sleep as the sun comes up.
