BRIEF OVERVIEW LOGLINE: A college coed investigates the mysterious death of her father due to a hunting accident. FILM: Character-driven independent feature in the vein of WINTER'S BONE, BLUE RUIN. GENRE: Female-driven thriller TRUE STORY/EVENTS: Based on the true story of my father, who was killed in a deer hunting accident (and my discovery years later that it was foul play). MAIN PROTAGONIST: Darla is a unique lead character that Hollywood has not seen before – a young woman who can hunt, shoot and solve. Attracting a popular young actress is the keystone to building this project. (For example, consider the impact of Jennifer Lawrence in WINTER'S BONE). Darla is a rough and tumble girl – a little rough around the edges, not like the other characters that have come before her. MAIN LOCATIONS: Small town crime, present day; Roanoke Mountains of Virginia where Darla’s father is shot and killed; a college campus where Darla attends school; and her childhood home in a waterfront community.
