Synopsis/Details
Live on the eleven o’clock news in San Diego, a news anchor, STEVEN, speeds down a freeway, away from cops and from men in grey suits. They follow him to his house, that he sets on fire. And, just before the station can go on a commercial break, our news anchor enters his burning home, signing off the air. It seems everyone in the county and online forums are up to date with what happened last night; well, except for his research assistant, BEN, who busies himself in the kitchen, eagerly awaiting his boss’ call. Today is the day he is getting answers, after all. Up until today, his work has been resorted to writing articles and book reports, ranging from quantum mechanics to collapse of ancient civilizations. But it seems that even his questions will have to wait, as he learns of his boss’ death when he pulls up to the estate in ruins, and to the Men in Grey Suits who interrogate him. They ask him nonsensical questions, about a disc, about Steven’s research, and even his own Google history. It seems the only questions he can answer rely on his recollections of his conversations with Steven, which has been as cryptic as this new world. Even more so, when a lawyer, ECKHART, enters to speak on his behalf, to get him away from these men and to get Ben better acquainted with his new job. Yes, new job. Steven has been preparing his protégé for this. His posthumous legacy is just beginning, only difference is what rests in Ben’s hands. His research and the disc in his hands serve a purpose, and it is up to Ben to understand what exactly Steven was investigating. Eckhart warns of preserving the disc and of a company merger between a mobile phone company and a news station, before driving himself over the cliff. Now Ben must rely on his random articles to understand the mystery of the disc, and the serendipitous timing of his estranged filmmaker brother RANDY. Paradigm is a show about understanding our potential and breaking past the limitations of our reality. The show follows Ben, his brother Randy, as they uncover secret subcultures within our world, and the secrets they possess to expose the truth craftily hidden in plain sight.
All Accolades & Coverage

Slamdance Coverage: "Very well written prose. You have good control over where the script is going and expertly lead the way...I thought the action, relationships and setting were very well developed....There were so many fun elements in this script. The bit describing the windows with people on their phones and the cat lady were excellent." (Semi-Finalist '16)
