A powerful secret society starts a plague pandemic in Manhattan to annihilate most of humanity and create a new social order. The plague’s three-phase delivery ensures maximum outbreak. While the infected quickly overrun the city the loss of cell phone and internet service is evidence of nefarious powers at work, causing panic and chaos. The catastrophic attack motivates an unlikely mix of individuals to band together for collective survival. The group includes Nick Williams, an industrious yet emotionally unstable building superintendent; compassionate and motherly Kate Marks, a real estate agent; Billy Bone, a simple-minded ranch hand from Alabama; and bike messenger Teresa (T) LaRocco, a spunky tough-girl lesbian. After the grim realization that help from the outside will not be arriving any time soon a fraction of the group escape Manhattan and travel up the Hudson Valley while the rest of the group choose to stay in the city. The city-group are stunned to discover that the devastation is being watched by impassive observers in a penthouse apartment on billionaire’s row, leading the group to believe that these people might be involved with the outbreak. Seeking answers and supplies, the group set out to reach the penthouse and the watchers from high above soon realize they have greatly underestimated the resilience of some left down below. While evading the infected survivors must navigate the lawless land and the willingness of most the ones left to do anything to survive. The horrendous circumstances challenge survivors’ values in surprising ways and transform who they are forever. “POGROM” is a psychological thriller that probes warped ideologies that justify unspeakable acts and the collective traumatic experience of those co-existing with ruthless predators in their midst. But unwavering resilience and altruistic acts are shown to shed hope and light in even the darkest of times.
