Synopsis/Details
SYNOPSIS: The screenplay, *Recycle*, is a science fiction narrative that explores themes of identity, love, and the consequences of technological advancements on human relationships. The story begins in the 1980s with John Thomas, an aging rock star disillusioned with life and haunted by a past love, Tina. His hedonistic lifestyle leads to a tragic encounter with Samantha, a devoted fan who feels betrayed by his callousness. In a fit of rage, Samantha shoots John, but instead of dying, he is transported into a dystopian future where humans are recycled into androgynous "Playthings" for others' pleasure. The screenplay juxtaposes John's past life of excess and emotional detachment with the sterile, dehumanized future world, creating a stark commentary on the commodification of human beings and the loss of individuality. LOGLINE: An ageing philandering pop-star, killed by his latest conquest, wakes in a society where women dominate and manufacture males, termed 'Playthings', for pleasure, only to fall in love with his creator who knows no feelings only recycling Playthings when bored with them. BRIEF SUMMARY: The story follows John Thomas an aging 1980’s Popstar disillusioned with his wealth and love life, facilitating Groupies as he searches for his first and only love who had died. In a fit of unrequited love his momentary latest conquest, Samantha, shoots him. In the far future recycling and cloning has gone wrong producing androgynous infertile males and females. The females dominate and physically create the males as ‘Playthings’ to serve their every desire using a computer system, Tintel. Magda has been experimenting with Playthings she creates to make them more intelligent but has unknowingly made them fertile, whereas her fertility is computer controlled. Her experimentation is unconsciously driven by an innate, unknown desire for love. In death John’s consciousness transfers to Magda’s latest creation, Plaything 256, due to Tintel malfunctioning and has to comes to terms with his situation quickly due to both Magda’s beauty and his mental lust. John is V.O. 256 in the future. For many trysts they seem to get along but when John admits he loves her an argument ensues with his recycling, Magda making Plaything 257 but she is feeling so sick, not only from the action but a physical change. John escapes recycling and takes the chance of living with Magda who somehow doesn’t recognize him. After some time, John realizes she is pregnant whereas Tintel diagnoses an unknown growth in her abdomen and intends sending a team of mobile recyclers to remove it. John sets about making weapons using the computer system with the view to escaping the environment with Magda. Magda goes full term and john delivers the baby she thinks was the growth and dispatches the team sent to kill them. John has created a method of escape but is unsure it will work. When a second recycling team arrives, he has to kill them and use the escape method that does work. The Society is angry with the pair and will follow them to destruction. CHARACTER INTRODUCTIONS: Both John and Magda are central characters. John is a Philander looking for love. Magda, an innocent, wanting, but never knowing love. The juxtaposing of the pair is love, but Magda having no feeling only destroys the source of it. KEY PLOT POINTS: John is hedonistic, searching for his lost love. Magda, a virgin, also seeks the same thing but has no knowledge of it. When John births their child although she doesn’t know what it is, she plays along. Prior to the escape we aren’t sure, is she is in love but just acting? UNIQUE SELLING POINT (USP): The premise is highly original and thought provoking. The concept of recycling humans into Playthings offers a fresh take on dystopian science fiction while serving as a metaphor such as objectification and emotional detachment. TARGET AUDIENCE: This story is aimed at fans of androgynous and abnormal Science Fiction thrillers. CALL TO ACTION (CTA): This script has the potential to be a successful television series or film. It will resonate with audiences and generate excitement and evoke curiosity leading to a series or follow on.
