Synopsis/Details
'Rolling In It' is a mockumentary sitcom which takes place over two weeks in November 2021. It has been written as a series of six 30-minute episodes.
The show uses different types of humour (satire, farce slapstick) to explore some topical issues, such as the growth of dog ownership and hybrids, the increase of dog thefts, and environmental issues such as the disposal of dog faeces. It also explores the perception of professional dog-walkers and the recent negative press attention which has exaggerated their earning potential. Through the characters, the show also explores more universal themes such as family, identity, race and sexuality.
Each episode is structured in a similar way, containing a walk in a park with an individual dog-walker, in which they answer direct questions related to the job, and deal with members of the public. In addition, each episode spends time at ‘Wookie Walks’, the Dog Centre & Office. Throughout the season, action also takes place at the homes of owners, vehicles while driving through London, a police station, and a Laser Quest facility.
The show has been scripted in the style of an observational documentary, employing one camera to produce a simple, minimalistic atmosphere. Some Talking Head interviews are employed, but stories are also told through direct footage of interactions amongst walkers and between them and members of the public, a source of much of the conflict and humour. Although the show has been scripted, there is scope for improvisation through interactions and incidents.
Various story-lines emerge as the series unfolds, such as a budding romance, a character’s homelessness, a pregnancy, and the pending sale of the building, throwing continuation of the business into doubt.
