Synopsis/Details
FACT: There are still over 40 Royal Families in the world today, many with body doubles. Raja, a young Indian-looking man, attired in only his pants, t-shirt, and wig, runs screaming out of the front doors of the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, right into the arms of two cops. He refuses to calm down, wig askew, and raving about an assassin he claims is after him. The skeptical cops don't find any dangerous assassins, so they cuff him. When the young man shows up in a men’s group session on a 51/50 – a danger to himself and/or others - he tells a wild tale of his country’s beautiful princess and how in Aladdistan, he was a fifth-generation make-up artist who made up the doubles for the Royal Family. He also claims that he was exiled to America because he was in love with the Princess, and that now she’s come all the way to America to see him, AND that he has uncovered a plot to kidnap or even kill her as part of a coup attempt in his country. It’s already a tall tale for the men, but Raja also believes the coup is being masterminded by someone very close to the Royal Family using the very doubles that Raja has expertly created. Even though Dr. Joe, the group’s psychologist, is not able to verify any of the information Raja has given them, the men in the group really need something to believe in besides their own delusions, so they choose to believe this man and his delusion. It’s so much more noble than their own.  They hatch a plan to break out of the hospital to go save Raja’s Princess who may or may not exist from the coup that may or may not exist. Joe can’t stop them and is compelled to go with them to keep them out of harm’s way.  Not possible, as Frank, a middle-aged man who thinks he’s a CIA agent; Steve, a handsome but suicidal actor; Edgar, an older man who’s been traumatized by the murder of his wife; and Bill, a depressed and confused math professor, are set on finding the Princess’ kidnappers. Back in the hospital, Raja – now dubbed Roger – is in anguish over the 72–hour mandatory lock-up.  With the help of Diane, the young charge nurse who believes his story, and Harold, a young black man in the ward, Roger manages to escape.
Meanwhile, Roger’s King has to suppress the coup attempt back in his country before flying to San Francisco with his top bodyguards and all collide in the race to save the Princess, each man from the ward finding a ray of hope for themselves in the process, including Dr. Joe, who has to confront the delusions in his own life. The King finally blesses Roger’s union with the Princess, and the men are all invited to the Royal Wedding.
