Synopsis/Details
A gangster show for the Uber era.
Running London is a crime drama, in which a tech-savvy kid from a small-time London gang takes on a powerful old school drugs boss, in a bid to run the city’s drugs business.
Think of how Uber is disrupting the livelihood of the traditional taxi driver – this is the same kind of story, but set in the violent world of London drug-dealing. It’s a clash of generations.
On one side, 16 year-old Kieran Sharp, who’s grown up in a scrappy East London gang – but he’s different, an outsider, his heroes are Zuckerberg and Jobs. He’s interested in how you can disrupt the status quo.
On the other side, an ageing old school gangster, Stan Garrett, powerful but complacent, with a wife and kids to look after, running things the same way it’s been done for decades.
Kieran’s Uber, and Stan’s the black cab business, and they’re both going to fight to the death to survive.
Running London is a series, like The Sopranos and Gomorrah, that examines how a criminal business deals with the rise of a new generation of young gangsters, who don’t follow the old rules.
All Accolades & Coverage
Long-listed by the BBC Writers Room 2017.
“This is a very well-constructed script written by someone who has clearly put a great deal of effort in to understanding how to craft an hour long TV spec. Structurally it’s solid and the idea of tech savvy youths against powerful crime lords to control drugs in London is a fresh and current idea.”
