Synopsis/Details
Brothers JABIR and AHMED are raised in Washington D.C. in a traditional Muslim home. Years later, Jabir has estranged himself by having converted to Christianity and is now Assistant Dean of a prominent religious university in Texas, where he is married to BECCA who is pregnant with their first child. As one of the brightest young biblical scholars in the world, Jabir can speak many ancient languages and has a gift of being able to recite any and all passages of the Bible verbatim. Meanwhile, Ahmed has gone on to become a scientist at NASA where he leads a top-secret project that has made time-travel a reality. We also meet the brothers’ father, KASAM, who is a prominent D.C. imam and has yet to forgive Jabir for leaving the Muslim faith. When Becca and their unborn child tragically die, Jabir questions his faith in God, but Ahmed gives him the opportunity to travel back to Galilee 30 A.D. to observe the ministries and to confirm the divinity of Jesus. However, due to a miscalculation within the program, Jabir is transported back to Judea twenty years earlier than planned. This error is realized when Jabir first meets and befriends Judas Iscariot–the same Judas from scripture–as a 10-year-old child. In the present day, Ahmed begins preparing to destroy all of the research so that the project does not fall into the wrong hands. That is when the military arrives at NASA and Ahmed and Kasam, who becomes a surprise ally to his sons, barricade themselves inside Mission Control until Jabir can return. In the past, we eventually meet Mary Magdalene. She tells Jabir she has never heard of Jesus. We learn too she is caring for an old woman, who is also named Mary. The older Mary cries upon hearing the name “Jesus” and reveals that was to be the name of her son who died in her womb. Jabir breaks down at the revelation that Jesus never actually existed. Judas then takes the dejected Jabir to the temple for Passover. There, Jabir meets The Devil in the form of a beggar–one of several times Satan appears as different antagonists throughout the story. During this encounter, The Devil taunts Jabir for believing the great lie about Jesus and his divinity. That pushes Jabir into action as he tears through the temple, overturning the money exchange tables, and exclaims that he himself is Jesus of Nazareth. Near the story’s climax, we see Jabir hanging on the cross, where he is visited by an angel in the form of his late wife. She tells Jabir his filling the role of Jesus was God’s plan all along. When the team pulls Jabir’s body back into the current time, just as the military storms the NASA facility, he is dead with the wounds of Christ visibly inflicted upon him. In the epilogue, we then see Mary Magdalene return to Jabir’s tomb, but she finds that his body is no longer there. She leaves the tomb exclaiming “he has risen!” THE END
