Synopsis/Details
ORLANDO (37) is a balloon salesman at the end of his rope. He’s in the midst of a divorce, can barely make ends meet, has not spoken to his mother in years, and must endure romantic pursuit by TERESA (29). One day, his gaze falls on a red-haired WOMAN (24) to whom he is instantly attracted. Enchanted, he loses her in a crowd, but a few days later he sees her again on the other side of a busy street. In a frantic attempt to not let her slip away a second time, Orlando runs into the street while the traffic light is still red. A van nearly hits him. He reaches a local pub where the woman has entered. She approaches him from behind, introduces herself as Luna, and asks him to join her at a table. Teresa, their waitress, acts strangely after seeing them together. Orlando suggests he and Luna leave the pub and go to the park. As they walk happily, a man in a doctor's coat approaches Orlando and whispers that he should kill Luna. Disturbed, Orlando sits with Luna on a bench and they begin to kiss. Luna turns into an old woman who attacks Orlando and insists that he kills the woman. The old woman disappears, and Orlando sets out in a panic to find Luna. He sees her standing in line at an ice cream stand, where Teresa is serving ice cream. Orlando resumes his walk with Luna, but suddenly Luna faints. Orlando rescues her, but the next instant he finds himself in the hospital, where a doctor informs him that Luna is in a coma. Orlando passes out. Orlando wakes up in a hospital bed. He walks past a room where he sees the elderly woman who attacked him in the park. She asks him to forgive her and dies. A nurse pushes Orlando out of the room and hits him on the head. He wakes up in a bed, next to Luna, at the home of her father. Orlando meets LUNA'S FATHER (54), a retired military officer, and her SISTER (21), a girl with a conspicuous scar on her upper lip. While they are eating a roast, Orlando is disturbed to find cat hair in his mouth. He runs to the bathroom, where Luna's sister tries to kiss him. He pushes her away, and she runs away accusing him of attempted rape. Luna’s father grabs Orlando and tries to kill him, but he is stopped by Teresa who, appearing out of nowhere, shoots Luna’s father and sister. Teresa reveals to Orlando that he's actually the one in a coma and that the only way to wake up is to kill Luna. After some hesitation, Orlando follows Teresa's advice and finally wakes up in a hospital. A doctor explains to him that he was hit by a van while attempting to cross the street. When he's discharged, Teresa takes him to her home. Orlando resumes his life, but discovers that while he was in a coma, his mother, the elderly woman he saw die during the coma, has actually died in real life. He also discovers that Luna's father was actually his father, killed by his mother when he was a child. Orlando tries to hang himself, but the rope breaks. A red door appears before him. Orlando walks through it and meets Luna. Luna reveals to him that she’s his subconscious, who attempted to keep him in a coma so he would not have to face the realities of his empty life. But after witnessing Teresa’s sacrificial act, Luna realized the value of love and the purpose of life. Finally at peace with his subconscious, Orlando resumes his life, but he's now married to Teresa. The two have a daughter, who looks exactly like Luna's sister during his coma.
