Synopsis/Details
SYNOPSIS SEVEN SKIES - is a fantasy film inspired by Romanian mythology with a cosmic-terrestrial romance and folk horror elements. A star-crossed romance. Horia is responsible for the destruction of his Călușari brotherhood. Transformed unwillingly into an immortal, he lives with this guilt for his eternity. Engulfed by it he keeps visiting the forest in search of those he believes to have driven his action,The Iele. A mistaken target, one of The lele now misleads him into thinking if he brings a human heart for all the trees in the forest, his brothers will return. Doina is not fully aware of Horia’s misbegotten quest. Doina has their own obsession: finding a cure to the curse on both of them. We follow them as they get more and more distant from one another, wondering how their stories will be resolved. STORY In Romanian mythology the sky is one of the major creations of the demiurges. Its perfection is evolutionary as they repeatedly experimented over a long period of time creating seven skies instead of one. The first layer contains the wind, rain, & snow, the second the sun & moon, & third the stars; our Earthly elements. The fourth layer is the realm of mythical creatures, in the fifth resides the Saints, the sixth holds the Heavenly Gardens, & seventh is home to the Creators. This myth is the backdrop for our story. Doina is a celestial demon in the 4th layer, who yearns to capture elements of being human; to be less coldly immortal. Observing Horia, a young Călușar with strong spiritual powers, they’re drawn to his energy of love & warmth. Doina descends to Earth and witnesses human customs and rituals while not visible to people. But Horia is special. He is a Călușar, with a strong spiritual power and desire to love a superior being. Horia is bedazzled by this emergent creature with living eyes. This unexpected connection causes Doina to burn with lust, something that intensifies in them stoking their growing knowledge of human ways and allowing them slowly to manifest in corporeal form. Doina misunderstands Horia’s fascination towards their immortal being with a wish of being immortal himself. When Horia expresses his human fears of mortality, Doina runs to the Sixth Sky to steal a fruit able to transform him. Halted in this task by the Mother of the Forest, their violation is punished by a curse partly granting Doina’s wish. Horia is now an immortal, but condemned to live not in the Seven Skies but on earth with Doina, and tortured by knowing his actions brought destruction to the Călușari. Doina has two options: continue to live as an immortal on earth and try to break the curse, or return to the cold, hollow and original condition. Doina’s struggle is to realise both – to break this curse, but to find a path to be with Horia again forever.
