Synopsis/Details
In the eerie streets of Salem, Massachusetts, 'Shadows of Mary' unfolds as a psychological thriller where obsession, fractured identity, and long-buried trauma collide.
Benjamin Adler, a reclusive and troubled man, fixates on fading TV actress Stella Baum, convinced that she is the key to something he lost long ago. Haunted by the ghostly memories of Mary Roark, his first and only love from years past, Benjamin stalks Stella under the guise of protecting her from a sinister figure named “Mathias.” But as his delusions deepen, it becomes clear that Mathias isn’t real—he is merely another splinter of Benjamin’s fractured mind.
Assigned as Stella’s bodyguard, Owen Specter is tasked with keeping her safe. When ominous threats begin appearing and Stella’s sense of security is shaken, Owen’s investigation leads him to Benjamin. Though the troubled man insists he’s shielding Stella from danger, Owen begins to suspect that Benjamin himself is the threat. As he digs deeper, he uncovers a disturbing pattern of past stalking incidents tied to Benjamin—each victim an echo of Mary Roark.
With the local community theater's final performance of 'Antigone' approaching, starring Stella, Benjamin’s mind unravels completely, and “Mathias” takes full control. He infiltrates the theater, armed and ready to target Stella in a twisted bid to free himself of his lost love by murdering Stella who reminds him of Mary. Owen, realizing the danger too late, makes the ultimate sacrifice—saving Stella from Benjamin’s bullets, but being killed himself while trying to talk Benjamin down.
In the aftermath, Benjamin is institutionalized, his mind forever lost in the past. As psychiatrist Kate Travelyan pieces together the truth, it becomes evident that Stella was never his true obsession—she was merely a shadow of Mary, the woman he was forced to leave behind.
Dark, atmospheric, and deeply psychological, 'Shadows of Mary' is a gripping thriller that explores the haunting nature of loss, identity, and the ghosts we carry within.
