Synopsis/Details
Spring Heeled Jack was the stuff of folklore, who the Victorian press painted as a demonic figure, bounding across rooftops, terrorizing women, breathing fire and snatching babies from cots. 100 years passed without anyone seeing him until one final sighting in Liverpool in 1941 on the roof of St France's Xavier church. Around the same time, an angel was purported to have been spotted at the church, and to this day there is a 10ft glass angel monument in the grounds, looking upwards. Who was the angel and why was she here? The same may be asked of Jack.
When 14 year old loner, Ben Turtle inadvertently frees a mysterious creature from his 81 year incarceration, he finds a true friend and the facts behind the legend of Spring Heeled Jack. And as Ben tries to help Jack return to his own world, Jack finds himself once again at the mercy of the media and also attracting the attentions of Hildegard, a fallen angel who believes the secret of immortality lies in Jack’s blood, which would enable her to remain immortal without suffering the pain, torment and regret of each soul she has been cursed to feed on for eternity.
When Ben, eager to clear Jack’s name confides in narcissistic classmate, Chloe, about freeing Jack, a bounty hunter who was regularly sent to Earth to rid us of tyrants and wrongdoers, Chloe sees her opportunity for her five minutes of fame and fabricates in true Penny Dreadful fashion that she is Jack’s latest victim. Seeing a like-minded soul in Chloe, Hildegard promises this young worshiper of reality TV eternal life if she helps her to capture Jack. Blinded by greed and fame, Chloe befriends the unassuming Ben who unwittingly leads her and Hildegard to Jack as he prepares to return home to retire. But as a struggle ensues, all 4 are sucked through a wormhole back to the planet Detent and high security prison Detent10N where miscreants from throughout the ages are incarcerated.
Hildegard, discovering The Pied Piper among the imprisoned, strikes a deal: In return for his freedom and the opportunity to hold Earth to ransom by threatening to lead the children of the world to their doom by the use of the Internet, he must help her procure Jack’s blood. With Sweeney Todd, Blackbeard and a motley crew of legends, The Piper and Hildegard return to Earth to carry out his threat whilst Jack, assisted by fellow bounty hunters, Bigfoot, Paul Bunyan and Valkyrie, finds himself forced out of retirement to pull off the biggest intergalactic bounty hunt in history.
Legends come and legends go, but sometimes they return…
