Against his money manager's advice, Knox -an ex-NFL star tight end- has unknowingly spent every dime of his savings and investments. Int he end he has nothing to show for it. With no real world work skills or work experience the best he can hope for is a minimum wage job. But when his sister, best friend, and favorite bartender (all of whom have been relying on Knox to survive and are part of the problem) recommend he start a business Knox jumps at the idea of starting up his dream, his own bar. But with very little capital and even less know how the group is forced to go another direction, the exact opposite direction when they discover a complete gym's worth of unwrapped, professional gym equipment in Knox's storage locker. A hold over freebie from his playing days when he was paid to promote the fitness line. A fat no-longer-football-player and his leech friends have no business running a business designed to get people in shape, especially since they continue to sneak drinks, joints, and fried foods just to get through their days. When they first open they find out the hard way that their strip mall gym in in the heart of the valley's yoga district. The learn this by way of Richard (reeshard) Turquoise (turrrquase) a man-bunned, toe-shoed, pretentious yogi who is out to get them shut down by any means. But against all odds they get one paying customer who is dedicated to getting ripped. Mason, a high school kid who looks like he mistook the gym for the comic shop. Knox takes to the id right away and shows him how to work out. In doing so, he learns that he likes to help people feel better about themselves... a sense of satisfaction he celebrates by sneaking away to huff down a jay real quick. One member isn't going to pay off the rent though. They need the rest of the move in money by the end of the week. Prayers are answered when Knox's high school football coach catches up with him and explains that his new batch of players isn't allowed to work out on campus after 5 due to state rules. He will get the money Knox needs form the boosters if the guys can use SWOLE to get around the rule. Knox is elated, problem solved. But when the group of high school football player run into Mason in the locker room and give him a swirly in the toilet, Knox loses his cool and kicks them out. When the coach comes in to smooth things over, Knox is shocked to find that in order to keep the check he will have to apologize to the players and let Mason out of his contract to find another place to work out. For the first time in his life, Knox is comfortable and doing something with purpose that he loves. But Mason is a big part of that. And now he has to choose. The check and the asshole football kids or Mason and potentially the end of the new gym? In the end, Knox has to decide on being the same old dipshit he's always been and take the easy way or to do what he knows is right and sacrifice something precious to him in order to keep the gym alive for 1 more month.
