Synopsis/Details
Somewhere deep in the cosmos lurks the Bone Butcher, a seven-foot tall, 400-pound creature. It has an inhuman, creepy white skull and a muscular body shrouded in wispy, black robes. It wields a thick, jagged spear and Medieval, double-sided axe. Its only purpose is to play its game. If you become a game contestant of its game, you can go back in time and change your biggest regrets, sins or misdeeds and thus make your life better. But when you come back to the present, the Bone Butcher will try to slaughter you. It only has a short period of time to do so. If you survive, you win. If you die, you lose. Present day, Earth, Luke, 32, is broke, recovers from drug and alcohol abuse, lives in a crappy apartment, and has a large regret that hangs over his life: he shot and killed his abusive, drunk father fifteen years ago. Luke blames this very moment for the reason he lives such a miserable existence. Luke is also an ex-rockstar whose ex-band kicked him out just as they became massively famous. At this trainwreck moment in his life, Luke falls off the wagon. Now drunk, he hears his mysterious, new neighbor’s strange music. The mystical music captivates Luke to his core. He’s never heard anything like it, and it seems to call to him. But when the neighbor rejects Luke’s attention, Luke breaks in and steals it. He cuts his hand in the process. Luke then plays the captivating music and miraculously gets transported to outer space, where he floats in front of a black hole which devours him. Luke gruesomely reassembles in his apartment – feeling high like he is on drugs – and finds his cut hand completely mended. Luke shows his volatile girlfriend, Kat, the incredible experience. This time, the music transports them to an enchanted cave on an asteroid which is more like a deserted, alien temple. There, they discover a way to relive the moments of their greatest regrets. After they relive these moments, Luke and Kate return to the present, and back to Earth. Luke changed a small detail, and his present life has been altered. Unwittingly, Luke and Kat have entered the Bone Butcher’s game. It appears and nearly slaughters them. But it can only stay a short period of time before vanishing and only comes when they go into their pasts. They heal their nearly fatal wounds by going through the black hole. Luke and Kat then repeat a cycle of trying to change their past regrets (which is harder than it seems), getting nearly killed by the Bone Butcher, and then healing themselves. They share this with some of their close friends who get slaughtered by the Bone Butcher in the process. Kat doesn’t know if she wants to change her biggest regret. Luke eventually succeeds and makes his life incredibly better. He then pushes them to keep playing the game to try and save their friends and finally gets Kat to change hers – so she can level up as well. But Kat makes an unethical choice. Which leads them on a collision course to a regret both Luke and Kat unknowingly share. It involves a girl who is from Luke’s famous ex-band. But as their changes become a slippery slope, and their present lives become a roller coaster of fortune and despair, the Bone Butcher gets closer and closer to killing them and fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
