Synopsis/Details
“The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.” – Hunter S. Thompson
THE BOTTOM RUNG is a satirical peak behind the Hollywood curtain set in sunny Southern California, (the heart of the entertainment industry). THE BOTTOM RUNG humorously chronicles the daily lives of six aspiring writers, producers, filmmakers, directors as they all begin their Hollywood journey at the bottom of the entertainment industry career ladder.
These six young twenty-something’s represent the unseen, underappreciated, underpaid worker bees who drive crappy cars, live in cramped apartments, eat Top Ramen and drink cheap beer and all the while make the stars shine brighter, reach higher heights and sometimes fall harder and all with little or no recognition. They are the foot soldiers in the Hollywood army. They are interns, college grads, dreamers, young writers, wannabe actors, models and future celeb ex-wives who toil every day behind the scenes doing whatever needs to be done, no matter how mundane or menial, no matter how disgustingly hilarious to keep the wheels turning in Hollywood's surreal world of glitz and glamour.
THE BOTTOM RUNG is a series for every young dreamer from a small town who dares to take a chance in pursuit of their dreams. Every kid from run-down factory towns in the rust belt, small farms in the Midwest and church pews in the Bible belt who ever wanted more out of life than a job in the family business or being relegated to a life of under-stimulation in the middle of nowhere. It’s also a series for every grown-up who followed their dream or wished they would have given it a shot.
Each week THE BOTTOM RUNG will follow the daily grind and long nights of our six production assistants:
