Synopsis/Details
She is the Siren. The last of her kind. Once a creature of myth and legend it would take until the 20th Century for humans to find a use for her - as the perfect killer. Now she wants to stop. The trouble is, she is being hunted. The Call of the Siren begins with the Siren in the South of France, where she targets an international blackmailer and fixer, Feodore Lorenz. Following the success of her mission, and its bloody conclusion, the story then travels to Cambridge, England, where her new target is a respected scientist her employers wish to stop. This time they do not want her to kill him, but to control him and to use her abilities to find his secrets. To reach the scientist, Martin Chinder, who is a professor at the university, the Siren befriends his son, Matthew, with whom she soon becomes romantically attached, further complicating her troubled feelings for the mission. Is Chinder doing wrong? Does he deserve to be targeted? Does she even want to be part of this? Into this complex emotional mix arrives Raul Albertan, the head of 'The School of Writings' in Rome, an obscure research group attached to The Vatican. They specialise in finding rational explanations to the greatest mysteries of nature. Visitations, weeping statues, ghosts and sightings. The Siren is of particular interest to Albertan, but to find her he must employ a ruthless killer and hunter of the rare, Luca Shelft. Doubting her role in the new assignment, and no longer willing to act for others, Eleanor wishes to escape. She also wishes to limit the damage her shadowy employers, and her controller, Oliver Hibbert, can do to the scientist and his World changing project. With the end of her mission drawing near, Shelft finds and attacks her, but is unable to capture her due to her unique ability at being able to turn instantly to liquid water as a means of escape. Frustrated, yet fascinated, he will try again. Nobody will get in his way and next time he will make sure she cannot escape. The story concludes with a double tragedy, a mysterious disappearance of the scientist's work, and a terrifying high speed journey across the sea (which is lethal to the Siren) as a face from her recent past catches up with her to seek revenge. The Siren is a unique character. New to the genre of contemporary fantasy. She is an ancient spirit creature of the water, once called a Nymph by the Greeks. She is forever young and forever wandering, that was until she became the ultimate operative for an unnamed international organisation that specialises in controlling and eradicating World threats. She has the ability to turn to liquid water before reforming elsewhere. She consumes her 'prey' by absorbing them painlessly in water leaving nothing but a memory. "Being killed by the Siren is a beautiful way to die". She also possesses the unique ability to be able to reach into people's souls, to find their deepest secrets and control their actions. For these reasons Oliver Hibbert wants to protect her. Others in his organisation are less enthusiastic, seeing her as a dangerous 'freak'. How deep is the conspiracy to end her, and what does Albertan have planned for her in Rome? The Call of the Siren is part 1 of the Siren Trilogy.
