The Chosen

Alex is tired of having this responsibility, especially when her younger sister, Claire, fails to cooperate with her. This causes Alex to argue with her mother when she returns home. After the argument, Alex goes to her room to calm down, but she doesn’t notice a black motorbike driving past her house. The next day, Alex takes her siblings to school. As she’s dropping off her youngest sister at her primary school, the same black motorbike drives past the car, but Alex fails to notice it. Alex then drives herself and her sister, Jessica, to college. Throughout the day, Alex notices the motorbike a few more times; once outside college, and once outside her classroom; however, she doesn’t see it for the rest of the day. That night, Alex bumps into a scared-looking Jessica, who tells her that she saw a ghostly face in the mirror. Alex jokes about it, then goes to watch TV. Later that night, Alex notices the black motorbike outside her house, then hears her sister’s scream. She sprints upstairs to Jessica’s room, only to see her being attacked by a witch. Alex tries to save her but is about to get killed when the door gets kicked down by a person who looks like the rider of the black motorbike. The rider saves Alex, but is unable to save Jessica, who gets taken by the witch. Alex later discovers that the rider is her childhood friend, Dmitri, who hasn’t spoken to her since he moved away eight years ago. Dmitri explains that his uncle has gone missing and told him to seek her out. He then informs her about his uncle’s job, which involves him hunting witches and other paranormal beings, and promises to save her sister. Alex is hesitant to believe him but knowing that he’s her only chance to find Jessica, she agrees to go with him. Dmitri takes Alex to Red Rock Canyon, where his uncle’s academy is located. Once there, Alex meets a few of Dmitri’s friends who show her how to fight different kinds of monsters. Dmitri then takes Alex to his uncle’s office and explains that his uncle works at the academy. As they’re looking around, the door starts to open on its own, revealing a witch, named Althea, who is a family friend of Dmitri’s. Althea informs them that a body, matching Jessica’s description, was found on the outskirts of town. Not wanting to believe her, Alex convinces Dmitri to check the morgue, and the three of them discover that it wasn’t Jessica’s body. Whilst they figure out what to do next, Alex, Dmitri, and Althea head to a diner to have something to eat. Althea pretends to have forgotten her purse and asks Alex to retrieve it from the pannier on her motorbike; however, things go from bad to worse when Alex disappears, and Dmitri finds nothing but her backpack on the floor.
