Synopsis/Details
Pablo Romero is a loyal but disgruntled former engineer who lives in his apartment with his wife Lucy (presently “Out Dome” looking after Pablo’s parents), who is a teacher, plus his always-hungry rescue cat, Freddy who are both ”In Dome”. The dome is a large man-made prototype artificial dome roughly about the size of South Florida, built to protect millions of people from the effects of climate change. There have been some increasing violent quakes within the dome over the last few months. On the way to work Pablo witnesses the devastating fatal consequences of the quake, which upsets him. At work talking to his good friend Taylor, Pablo expressed his concerns about the recent quakes. Taylor tells Pablo about the suspicious death of colleagues whose families were paid off the keep quiet about the corruption, cost-cutting, and unsuitable equipment to get the contract to build the prototype dome. At work is Pablo’s manager, Paul Jenson. An obnoxious bully who intimidates everyone especially Pablo, and the reason why Pablo now works in the maintenance department. That night, Pablo sees a disturbing news report about a tragic school bus accident and is appalled and distressed by this and plans his next move to uncover the truth. His dad Gordon, who lives out of the dome, was one of the senior managers of the initial dome construction, but he was paid off with the corruption and construction concerns. He asks Pablo to smuggle a blank CD into a pocket made in the back of his driver’s seat, taking a great risk, and is nearly caught by Dave, the guard at the gatehouse. Pablo drives to his parent’s. His dad pulls in some favours about a backup server only accessible by CD, which will contain enough data to expose the corruption and risk of the dome’s collapse. The server room is accessed by multiple high-level military-grade security measures. Pablo smuggles the CD out of the dome and plans a dinner party to steal Paul’s palm print and retinal scans. He plans his next move to Polaroid punk the CCTV cameras but it fails. Deflated, Pablo enlists the help of his colleagues to help him fool the guards. The next day, he executes his plan, but this again fails spectacularly. He confesses to Taylor who helps him organise a more robust plan. Taylor is later caught in Paul’s office snooping with Paul threatening Taylor. The next day, Pablo sees TV news that Taylor has been killed. Devastated, Pablo is even more determined to succeed. Lucy is back from seeing Pablo’s parents hold a dinner party. Getting Paul and his wife Susan drunk, Pablo ingeniously gets Paul’s palm print and retinal scan. They nearly get rumbled but get all they need. Upset, Pablo goes to Taylor’s funeral but Taylor's wife Mary is supportive and doesn’t blame him. She helps Pablo get a prosthetic bald wig to look and act like Paul to fool the guards. Pablo’s co-workers help steal Paul’s ID whilst out drinking, giving it to Pablo, who dressed as Paul, fools the guards. He gains access to the server room nearly getting caught in the process but he gets the necessary information on the CD. At night Pablo receives a phone call to say that Lucy has been involved in a hit and run and is in a coma. He tries to go out to see her but is refused. Dave comes to Pablo’s apartment and gives him instructions on how to access the CCTV cameras outside the dome Pablo gets the CCTV footage and is shocked at who it is that left her for dead. Paul lures Pablo to go to the cloud seeding plant on the pretense as Paul wants to kill Pablo just like other colleagues. Pablo is viciously attacked by Paul and they have a life-or-death fight during a large quake that threatens to collapse the area they are in, but who survives? Pablo leaves the dome but not without tense drama at the gatehouse. He hands over the smuggled CD to his dad who promises to expose the corruption and deaths of workers. Can Pablo save the inhabitants of the dome? He goes to the hospital and Lucy is in the Intensive Care Unit, but will she live or die? Will the news of the exposure of the dome spark her into living? The news has far-reaching consequences with criminal convictions and the evacuation of the dome being the greatest mass movement since the second world war. Lessons are learned, but will the world leaders pull together to make the new domes safer for humanity...

The Writer: Gareth J Mallon

To be honest, my normal job is as a Paramedic in the UK, and screenwriting is a new hobby for me. After signing up to an online university course in 2019, I now have the bug. I have written two features and 3 short scripts. My latest, To the Moon and Back passes the Bechdel test with a strong young female protagonist. I enjoyed writing my scripts, I hope you enjoy them too. Go to bio
