In January 1972, two armed FBI agents enter slum apartment building in Bronx, NY, intending to question former Columbia SDS activist, to gain information that will help FBI capture Weather Underground fugitives who were previously involved in Columbia SDS. Inside building, FBI agents question two elderly tenants and the super, who tells them person they wish to question is "a long-haired hippie-type" who no longer lives there. "Long-haired hippie-type" FBI wishes to question--a 23-year-old,long-haired bearded youth named Jim--is, however, then walking from a Toledo, Ohio rairoad station to Toledo's bus station, while carrying a duffel bag and worn-out guitar case. Jim boards bus going to Ann Arbor, Michigan and, before bus pulls out, 19-year-old woman student also boards bus, takes seat next to Jim, and they converse with each other until bus arrives in Downtown Ann Arbor by nightfall. Carrying his guitar case and duffel bag, Jim waves goodbye to student, talks to a nearby motel and, under name "Jim Wilson", pays for room for night. He then dumps guitar case and duffel bag on bed in motel room, exits motel and walks from Downtown Ann Arbor to U. of Michigan's student union building.
