Synopsis/Details
In the quaint, bin-obsessed village of Muddlebury, the annual Best Kept Bin competition is a sacred tradition, ruled for a decade by Marjorie Pimm (60s), a formidable matriarch whose glittering wheelie bin and iron grip keep the village in order. When Nigel (50s), a quirky ex-binman, arrives with a suspiciously pristine bin, Marjorie’s suspicions ignite. Unbeknownst to all, Nigel’s bin is the BinBot, a snarky, self-cleaning AI marvel he hopes will redeem his tarnished binman past.
As Marjorie rallies her knitting circle for covert “bin surveillance,” Nigel’s BinBot causes havoc—insulting a vicar, dumping compost on prized roses, and drawing the bumbling postman Dave (40s) into its secret. Dave, smitten with Marjorie, betrays Nigel by revealing the BinBot’s existence, giving Marjorie leverage to crush her rival. Tensions explode at the village fete’s Grand Bin Parade, where the BinBot malfunctions, flinging rubbish across the green, but inadvertently exposes Marjorie’s own bin-tampering scheme, disqualifying her.
Amid the chaos, Nigel withdraws to save the fete, earning the villagers’ respect, while Marjorie, humbled, softens, accepting Dave’s tea invitation. A year later, the BinBot is Muddlebury’s mascot, Marjorie shares a new “Bin Harmony” trophy with Nigel, and the village toasts to “rubbish harmony,” proving that even in a bin war, community trumps competition. This British farce brims with dry wit, slapstick, and heart, celebrating the absurdity of village life and the power of second chances.
