Synopsis/Details
Genre: Darkly comedic psychosexual thriller within a tragic love story. Comparison Handle: Reimagine ANORA as a wellness vlogger—not a sex worker—and now give her a JEKYLL AND HYDE-split personality, KILLING EVE-style, because The Happiness Angel is taser-damaged with the real-life taser-related condition, excited delirium. Theme: Some people never win at love. “I’ll fucking make HIM love me if it kills me,” vlogs wellness therapist, Candy Towne, known to her followers as THE HAPPINESS ANGEL, smarting from the unrequited love of her mentor. HIM being Jason Wood, her former therapist, an emotionally unavailable millionaire mental health entrepreneur who treated Candy’s subconscious scars after her ex-husband attempted to murder her. Ironic, because when she does eventually win Jason’s heart, he dies, not her! He takes a bullet intended for her. In the closing moments, a mystery is solved that links an ancient first edition of Shakespeare’s Sonnets—featured in every act—to Jason’s first love, who perished under his car. This takes us full circle because Candy, in the opening scene of Act 1—while she’s filming the above vlog in England’s Dartmoor National Park—witnesses what she believes to be a young woman (Scarlett Snow) being kidnapped. With neither hesitation nor thought for her own safety, she rushes to rescue her, accidentally killing ‘the kidnapper,’ who turns out to be Scarlett’s husband! Police arrive. Scarlett—who proves to be a lesbian minx and later falls in love with Candy—initially accuses her of murder. Candy is tasered into submission at 50,000 volts for 17 seconds. One of the taser prongs imbeds in her neck. This prolonged taser hit triggers a violent compulsion to throttle her lover mid-act, electrifying Candy’s sex life and transforming her personality Jekyll and Hyde-style. Think female-led Jekyll and Hyde in love! Desire and disaster triggered by the rare but real-life taser-related condition, excited delirium. Now, with time running out, Candy must stand trial, regain her sanity, and release Jason from his trauma about the death of his first love before he can be free to love again. And when she wins his heart, there’s a risk she’ll strangle him at the height of ecstasy in excited delirium mode because Jason has a penchant for being handcuffed to his iron bed during sex! Meanwhile, Scarlett is desperate for sex with Candy, and Zalika Rose, president of American Taser Manufacturing Inc., pulls high-powered strings to protect the industry’s reputation. This bedevilling culmination of events leads to a breathtakingly dramatic climax.

The Writer: David M Hinds

My profession—prior to writing in retirement—is stress management consultancy specialising in problems of the subconscious mind. The Happiness Angel’s backstory is a fictitious but true-to-life fusion of the toughest trauma cases I resolved throughout my career. I’ve actually lived much of this story firsthand and experienced even more through my clients! The framework of the story is loosely based on my pilot stress management consultancy for which I won the 1993 Daily Express Award for Innovation in Franchising and made £1 million+ from the licensing of 92 consultancies. I am also a HarperCollins-published author. My first book, After Stroke, published in February 2000, has been featured… Go to bio
