This is an outstanding comedy writing sample that feels exactly like the kind of bold, dark projects FXX or a similar cable outlet would be interested in. The opening page is practically a masterclass in how to succinctly craft a sense of place and a darkly comedic tone. Despite the shocking nature of how he's introduced, Gerald is quickly given a surprising amount of emotional depth. This script offers a gutting look at trauma and how difficult it can be to move on in life without ever letting up on the comedy. Lines like "you know that fat fuck is sensitive" are hilarious indicators of the writer to reveal character through contradictory dialogue. This is a great writing sample. The writer has crafted all of the necessary elements of a competitive spec for the current market.
