Synopsis/Details
THE OBSERVATORY is a half-hour animated kids science fiction series following the adventures of two girls, Zoe and Azele, from Earth who discover a portal that leads to The Observatory. The Observatory is a massive space station which contains an assembly of diverse aliens who have joined together to discover and link new planets throughout the galaxy and can provide potential allies and habitats. When some planets are first discovered, like Earth, the portals are marked offline until such a time they deem it necessary to explore further and/or make first contact with the local species.
Upon their first arrival in the pilot, the kids find themselves recruited as Observers: explorers whose job it is to travel through portals on scientific missions to find new life, technology and raw materials to support the collective of The Observatory. They also meet a new friend Gren: a young alien boy desperate for adventure with his robot sidekick, Bit. The leader of the station Pax (also Gren’s father) provides the kids with dilometers, wrist devices that allow them to travel through portals but also control their time away from Earth.
While the series is episodic in nature, there is a serialized element that is embedded throughout, introduced in the pilot. Throughout their adventures, the kids will encounter and learn more about a war-like alien species who want to find and control The Observatory as it can provide them with an advantage towards dominance over the galaxy. Through mid-season and finale climaxes, the kids will have to use what they've learned as Observers to help defend The Observatory and protect planets like Earth from invasion.
Aside from this background arc, the goal of each episode is to tell exciting, self-contained STEM-based adventures using advanced alien technologies across an endless variety of exciting new worlds, in a similar style of Stargate while targeted to kids. A main theme present in each episode is what it means to be a scientist or engineer and that we all have a desire to explore and learn in our own unique ways.
