Synopsis/Details
A recent outbreak of a stomach virus has found its way into a military camp, just when a MARSHAL arrives to inspect the premises. While the Marshall and the camp officer, HENRY, address the men, some of the soldiers are too sick to stand, like PETER. Suddenly, Peter faints and the Marshall’s bodyguards beat him for appearing weak. But Peter’s friend, ANDREW, comes to his aid and is arrested for defiling the Marshall.
Henry sentences Andrew to be imprisoned inside a warehouse in a nearby village owned by a man named, ARTHUR. Henry entrusts his second-in-command, JACOB, to transport Andrew and deliver a letter to Arthur detailing Andrew’s crime. Jacob dislikes Andrew since he's favored by other soldiers after rescuing Henry from an ambush. On the way to the village, Jacob loses the letter but tells Henry he passed it along to Arthur.
Andrew is locked up inside the warehouse for several days, oftentimes playing his harmonica to pass the time. In the meantime, Arthur delivers him three meals a day and tries to avoid the scrutiny of the village
elder, TOM. One day, while playing the harmonica, Andrew manages to intrigue the interest of Arthur’s daughter, CATHERINE, and his wife, SARAH. Catherine is blind; her mother carries her everyday to a local spring, which is rumored to have healing powers.
One day, Jacob drops off a married couple inside the warehouse and attempts to rape the wife. Suddenly, Andrew grabs his gun, shoots him, and escapes with the couple into the nearby woods. Arthur returns Jacob to the camp doctor, just as reinforcements arrive in preparation for a large offensive. On his way back to the village, Arthur finds the letter Jacob meant to give him and learns he was only meant to keep Andrew for a few days. Meanwhile, Andrew steals Arthur’s tools in order to build Catherine a wheelchair. At first, Arthur does not like Andrew’s gesture, but acquieses when Andrew is arrested by Tom and his followers. Tom is about to execute Andrew, when Henry and his troops arrive and rescue Andrew.
Back at military camp, Andrew learns that his home village has been bombed and that his siblings, NICK and SUSAN, might be dead. That night, Andrew sneaks back to the village and returns Arthur’s tools. The next day, the troops break camp and descend to the front lines. The army becomes surrounded, but manages to win the battle. One month later, the war has ended and Henry and Andrew return to Arthur’s village. Miraculously, Nick and Susan are with them and play with Catherine while Arthur and Andrew sit back and watch
