Synopsis/Details
Sophie, a reserved and troubled teenager, is sent to an elite Catholic high school as part of her sentence for crimes she committed. The school is a stark contrast to her world: a place where wealthy, privileged kids dominate, indifferent to the struggles of others. Sophie feels completely out of place, alienated by their obsession with medieval art and French history—subjects she knows nothing about.
When assigned a group presentation to catch up on her knowledge, Sophie is paired with Alex, Julia, and Matthew—three popular and dismissive classmates. Instead of working together, they pressure Sophie into drinking with them the night before the project is due. They abandon her, leaving her to complete the entire presentation on her own. Exhausted but determined, Sophie stays up all night to finish it. Exhausted from working, Sophie oversleeps and misses morning Mass. When she finally arrives, a nun punishes her by striking her several times with a rosary.
On the day of the presentation, Sophie feels a rare surge of pride in her work. However, as she's about to begin, Alex insists on starting. Reluctantly, she hands him her carefully prepared notes. To her shock, Alex takes over the entire presentation, claiming it as his own. Their teacher, unimpressed by the one-sided effort, cuts them off and orders them back to their seats.
Furious and humiliated, Sophie’s anger boils over. In a moment of blind rage, she grabs a stapler from the teacher's desk and strikes Alex on the head. As he collapses, she continues her assault, unable to stop herself, as the classroom descends into chaos.
