Synopsis/Details
Long ago, a few alien objects, traveling through space, plunge into early Earth's molten surface.
In the year 2014, Ashley O’Reilly, a quirkyalone college girl, and Ethan Sutton, a wildlife lover, explore an abandoned gold mine in the Tucson Mountains. Ethan discovers a luminous turquoise that was part of a mysterious creature and offers it to Ashley. They go to Ashley's home. As Ashley washes the stone, water starts to spurt out of it as if by magic. Ethan gets the water-producing stone trapped inside a bottle. Ashley means to produce drinking water with the stone to make money.
The following day, they return to the abandoned mine in the company of Ethan's adopted brother, Randy Sutton, and find three other magical stones. They manage to produce gasoline with one of them. They intend to make a fortune with the stones, but Smasher, a female gang member on the loose, threatens them with a gun. She steals their stones. Ethan drives her to Flagstaff. Ashley and the two brothers find themselves in the clutches of a female gang, the Red Spades, that also includes Nefertiti, Dragon and Queenie.
The four Red Spades bring the three students back to the abandoned mine and force them to search for more stones. Big Fish, a corrupt Sheriff department's senior officer who is the Red Spades' leader, arranges to meet Queenie at the Mormon Rocks to get the stones. A gunfight erupts between the kids and the Red spades, who flee from the mine. Despite Ashley's reluctance, they set off in pursuit of the Red Spades. Their car breaks down on a highway. They manage to get a secondhand car. At night, Randy spots the Red Spades' pickup parked outside a motel. A fight between Ethan, Randy and the Red Spades ensues in the motel. Thanks to Ashley's intervention, the kids take the three stones back and drive off.
On their way back to Tucson, they take a break and fall asleep. The next morning, the bad girls wake them up and retrieve the three stones. Stopping a gunfight, Ethan takes hold of Queenie at gunpoint, then the other Red Spades members take Ashley hostage and away. Ethan fixes damage to the car and, along with Randy holding Queenie at gunpoint, looks for her. At a gas station, Nefertiti and Smasher leave Dragon on the spot, keeping the stones. Dragon hijacks a van and gives chase.
Dragon shoots Nefertiti dead. Ashley guns down a menacing Dragon. Smasher takes Ashley prisoner, then she takes her along to the Mormon Rocks, where she meets Big Fish. He plans to mass-produce gasoline in Mexico. He tries to murder Ashley, but Smasher stops him from firing at her and gets hurt in the process. Ashley and Big Fish get into a fight. The arrival of Ethan and Randy, keeping Queenie as their prisoner, leads to a gunfight. Randy is injured. Ethan destroys the stones, urged to do so by Randy, by setting them on fire.
Ashley and Ethan meet again at the University of Arizona, where they kiss. Afterward, they kayak Lake Mead, whose level is at a record low. Ashley, having discovered the value of life, drops her water-producing stone into the valuable reservoir.
