Synopsis/Details
Amilia is a pushy, outspoken, hedonistic teenager whose idea of commitment is to kiss the same boy twice.
Kiki, her mother, a snooty, power-dressing lawyer, is worried about her and wants to change Amilia’s self-centred ways, if not at the expense of actually spending time with her.
When Kiki is forced to bring Pearl, her angry confused mother, to live with them, she decides to make Amilia her mother's carer as a condition of access to bank of Mum in the hope that doing so will change her for the better. Kiki does not concern herself with the fact that she hasn’t the time or inclination to look after her mother herself.
At first Amilia resists and locks antlers with Grandma Pearl at every turn but gradually she re-establishes a link with her. In the process, after Pearl almost expires when choking on what Amilia gave her to eat, she begins to wonder if Pearl is really demented at all, believing there could be something different going on.
Amilia has an uphill battle in trying to make her case to her mother and doctors. No-one will listen despite Amilia’s assertive representations. Even a serious, near-fatal incident for both Pearl and Kiki does not persuade her mother.
Amilia has to become inventive in how she can get her grandmother the help she needs.
As Amilia helps her Gran, her attitude to her superficial friends begins to change as she establishes a new friendship with a less-privileged girl that she had previously dismissed in her characteristic outspoken manner.
It is only when Amilia is able to engineer a sexual liaison between her mother and her Grandmother's doctor via a toe-curling intervention, that things begin to change.
But how will it all end?
