Synopsis/Details
Addie and Red – writing duo, power couple, and recovering addicts – are fresh off the surprise success of their debut novel. Finally on their feet again, they manage to scrape together just enough money to purchase a remote Midwestern farmhouse; the perfect location to pen their sophomore effort. But writer’s block plagues them. Pressure from their publisher mounts. They suddenly risk losing everything. Out of desperation, they attempt a lucid dreaming experiment known as “The Watching” to find inspiration. Go to sleep at 10 p.m. Wake up at 3 a.m. Every night. Addie describes her dreams while Red records her, capturing the ideas they need to finish their book. But Addie’s dreams quickly sour. Recurring images haunt her. A red door. An upside-down cross. And a dark, demonic presence drawing ever closer… Convinced that these images are clues, Addie becomes obsessed with finding their meaning. Going against Red’s wishes, Addie abandons their book altogether and instead delves deeper into her subconscious. The disturbing visions from her dreams begin creeping into her waking life. She can no longer distinguish between reality and fantasy. The terrors reach a fever pitch as Addie discovers the shocking truth… she is not safe. And to reclaim her life, she must face the horrors head-on. But to prevail over the evil terrorizing her, she must also face her inner demons. This unleashes a spine-tingling climactic sequence that steps us through the labyrinthine puzzle set up in the previous acts. Each scene brings us closer to the answer; the meaning of it all. But as the climax reaches its electrifying conclusion, we’re reminded of one harsh constant in the dream realm: nothing is as it seems.
