Synopsis/Details
Have your alcohol pads ready because you'll be scratching your head so much,
you'll be bleeding. "The Weird Guy" is a character-based, single-camera, half-hour
dark/cringe comedy series that delves deep into the life of "that one guy". Unlike all
other shows that follow cliques, Garence Monfredi is a one-man freak show that creates
awkwardness wherever he goes. The show takes place in modern day Lawrencetown,
New Jersey, and shifts between the Monfredi household, Lawrencetown high school, and
other miscellaneous places based on wherever Garence's adventures lead him.
The central character is a 13-year-old Garence, who is just starting high school and trying to find his place like everyone else. However, now that the sidekick is the main focus of the show, the conflict has been shifted from the protagonist, to everyone else and how they deal with the Garence's isms'. Idiosyncrasies include walking with his thumb in his shirt, laughing at things nobody else finds funny, and closing his ears whenever he hears something that's even a little too loud (ie: babies crying). Throughout everything he's faced with, he always stays within his own reality, all the while clashing with almost everyone else who just don't get him. It rarely phases him that the seats next to him are always the last to get filled, if at all, or that most people view him as the elephant in the room not worth addressing. As the series progresses, Garence's ultimate goal is to be taken just as seriously as everyone else takes themselves, while always maintaining his identity and never compromising his personal happiness.
Other main characters include Garence's Irish twin, Kevin. He is the complete opposite of Garence, in the way that he is popular, sporty, and better liked by his parents. While not being the overachiever, he tries to normalize Garence the best way he could, as per his parents’ constant request. Alongside Kevin is his best friend Jimmy O' Coyle: a wannabe gangster who always butts heads with Garence whenever the two are in the same situation, thus ensuring a constant conflict throughout the series. Rounding out the cast is Garence's father, Thomas, a well-regarded construction foreman and his wife, Joanne, a wholesome woman who works as a pharmacist and is more patient with Garence as her husband. While they both prefer Kevin to Garence, they have no choice but to accept him as he constantly tests their limits.
