Synopsis/Details
Dick Hardin is a homesteader, father of two and the town Marshall in 1880's Oklahoma .who has a drinking problem He has fallen on hard times in an attempt to homestead and live up to his father's reputation. He has had to borrow money from a ruthless cattle boss to make his mortgage. Making matters worse, both of his children have caught cholera and he struggles to find additional money to buy the cure to save them, which is pure opium. Dick is up to his ears in shady dealings with all sorts of criminals and outlaws which he is able to hide as the town Marshall.
On the other side of the plain two black cowboys and brothers (Clarence and Crawford) get into an altercation with a white-man that they mistaken think that they killed in the fight. They go on the run assuming that a lynch mob is chasing them. Running out of money the find themselves in Dick Hardin's town trying to bargain to get supplies at the general store. Dick comes to the rescue and recruits them to rob a train so that they can split the money.
The robbery goes bad and the outlaws kill the train engineer. Dick and his brother are forced to investigate the crime that Dick has engineered. Though Dick tries to throw the investigation off the trail of the outlaws he finds himself in a boxcar with his Marshall brother on one side and the outlaw robbers that are working for him on the other. He attempts to thread the needle but a shootout ensues and his brother is killed in the gunfight.
