Synopsis/Details
In Unwanted Baggage, the gritty streets of London set the stage for a chaotic blend of redemption, revenge, and awkward relationships. Fresh out of prison after serving time for a botched armed robbery, Rich (40s) is determined to reconnect with his tech-savvy teenage daughter, Lilly (15), and make a clean break from his criminal past. Their simple plan? Blackmail a dirty cop, grab the cash, and leave the country. But when his ex-wife Carrie (30s)—who also happens to be remarried to an uptight graphic designer, Danny (40s)—gets tangled in the mess, things go hilariously off the rails.
Rich’s release is anything but smooth. After threatening Bryce, the corrupt cop who set him up, Rich demands the money he’s owed. But instead of a clean payoff, he gets pulled into a spiraling series of misadventures. Meanwhile, Carrie tries to keep her new husband, Danny, blissfully ignorant of her shady past—but Danny’s suspicions flare up after he catches her sneaking an old SD card that holds the dead man's trigger video out of a cupboard. His attempts to uncover the truth take a ridiculous turn when, out of sheer jealousy, he uses the SD card to orchestrate a "sex-tape power move" to satisfy his bruised ego.
Danny’s plan spectacularly backfires when Rich discovers he’s traded the wrong SD card with Bryce, narrowly escaping the exchange only to realize the money he was given is counterfeit. Furious, Rich storms into Danny’s house, demanding the SD card. But rather than handing over his X-rated home video, Danny swallows it! Chaos ensues as Bryce hires gangsters and places a bounty on Rich and Danny, triggering an outrageous chase across London. From stolen cars to dumpster dives, the madness peaks when Rich tries to induce Danny to vomit by making him eat expired Chinese food from a trash bin in a desperate bid to retrieve the SD Card.
As tensions rise, Danny discovers the terrifying thrill of life on the run, whether he likes it or not. Forced into an unlikely alliance with his wife’s ex-husband, he finds himself battling gangsters, dirty cops, and his own insecurities. Along the way, Lilly proves she’s smarter than all of them combined, hacking her way out of trouble and delivering snarky commentary about the ridiculousness of her dad’s life choices.
Ultimately, Unwanted Baggage is an absurdly entertaining mix of family dysfunction and high-stakes hijinks. Rich and Danny’s begrudging partnership evolves into a reluctant camaraderie as they outwit their enemies and confront their baggage—both literal and metaphorical. With laugh-out-loud twists, unexpected alliances, and a final showdown that’s as hilarious as it is action-packed.
