Synopsis/Details
A dark, suspense tale which through metaphor talks about the negative sides of one political society. “We are all parrots, except those who are not or A light that never goes out” is a complete metaphor for a political society where power and superiority are the main goal. This is a story about KIT, our protagonist who is celebrating his 18th birthday at the beginning of the story. His parents are dead so he lives with his two uncles UBEL and KERES. The morning after his birthday, Kit wakes up in his house in complete darkness, there’s not a single light or window anywhere. His uncle Ubel tells him that they have entered a new world, where their only hope of survival is the only source of light, the candles. In complete darkness they would turn into wax figures, and then disappear. Kit tries to escape, but realizes that the house has turned into a maze. Kit starts to work hard every day, melting wax and making new candles. He finally understands that when darkness takes away a life, the light can slowly bring it back. He discovers this when he gets his parrot back to life using the candles. When Ubel finds out that he knows this, he locks him up in the basement of their workshop. Kit is reunited with his other uncle down there, who’s on the edge of dying. They make a plan how to escape from Ubel’s madness, while the threat of darkness gets stronger day by day. In the end, before they pull everything off, Ubel finds everything out. Kit has to sacrifice his parrot which he was trying to save the entire story. He’s brought to a moral dilemma where he has to turn to a selfish person. Once they outsmart Ubel, who was supposed the be the bad guy, Keres takes his place and continues to do the same things that Ubel did, Kit stays the same, continuing to work on the candles every day to provide light.
