Synopsis/Details
NOTE: WOULD LOVE A CO-WRITER TO UPDATE THE DIALOGUE, CHARACTERS, ETC. “Winner Takes Dad” is a teen/family comedy, as familiar as any teen rivalry film. It’s a fresh, hilarious approach to a typically dramatic subject, yet carrying an underlying honesty about the affect bigamy has on the families involved. Danny Smith plays for the Knights. Donny Smith plays for the Wildcats. As their teams head for the inevitable championship showdown, they discover they are half-brothers: Dad is married to both their moms. With teenage hubris, they decide to let the winner of the game keep Dad, while the loser goes away forever; this way only one family is torn apart. Neither boy is confident of his chances of winning, so they embark on a series of zany sabotage schemes, until it becomes more about beating the other guy than about saving their families. The pranks escalate until Donny is declared ineligible to play, and they realize how high the stakes really are. Ultimately, the boys learn that family – even family you didn’t know you had – is more important than winning. “Winner Takes Dad” uses the successful techniques of other high school comedies (including the right amount of gross-out humor and peer pressure), combined with the universal message of the importance and strength of family bonds, to appeal to a wide audience.

The Writer: J.E. Ellis

A native to Northern California, I moved to Reno, Nevada in 1985. I was a truck driver for 34 years (recently retired, whoop! whoop!), married for 30, and have a 16 year old granddaughter who has me wrapped around her fingers (and knows it). In 1994, I began writing professionally (pen name J.E. Ellis), from magazine articles to technical brochures to TV pilots. Several short stories, as well as my 2006 award-winning fantasy book, "The Hordes of Rage," are available on my website. I recently returned to TTRPGs where I run games out of the local game store, Nerdvana. And go to as many sci-fi or gaming cons as I can afford. Go to bio
