Hi
Like you, I love stories. I love screenplays that help us process and deal with the challenges of our own lives.
My awareness has been expanding into the types of stories we consume on a daily basis whether it be screen or novel. A large proportion of what is mainstream is based on murder and crime, and how terrible we are to each other. I’ve noticed more violence towards women and children creeping into our movie diet, along with predictive programming, current agendas and narratives.
There are so many other types of story out there that I’d love to see in movie format that covers unexplained phenomenon, buried science and crazy discoveries…
For example, did you hear the story about the Lead Masks Case of Vintem Hill? Or neuroscientist Jack Kruz’s science-bending work, or eye glasses that were once invented that allowed the spectrum of the human eye to see more?
Whether true or not, they would make for interesting movies. Movies that would plant seeds of possibilities to human potential over an overly large diet of fear and destruction.
(Oh yeah - and what the heck have they just uncovered under the Giza pyramids?)
I like that there are a lot more conversations being batted about online, questioning who and what we are as a species and what we are capable of.
What seems to be a commonality is that many of us are stuck on the bottom lairs of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, just trying to pay the bills and survive. Stay healthy. This makes it more difficult to tap into our full creative power when we’re in survival mode a lot of the time.
I’m just getting this itch that is it time to go deeper with story?
As I get to know AI, I guess it will likely be capable of writing screenplays based on what has worked so far. But AI can’t create. And the best stories come from our human experiences and the process of living.
I loved this episode examining why that is:
https://www.su.org/resources/why-storytelling-will-prevent-ai-dominance?...
Yet are we moving quickly towards a world where suppressing free speech and limiting creative exploration will undoubtedly further cripple creativity?
What is on the other side of a slick AI controlled world?
I picture the set of Blade Runner 2049 with the old lost world bathed in a yellow radioactive fog, all that is wild and free long gone.
Humanity is opportunity to experience a physical life, and imagine if our schools taught children how important connection with each other is, helping each other - a different kind of early learning. Not division. Right now, many of us are depressed and alone, and J Harri’s book Lost Connections did the research why that is. Depression is a signal that something is not right with the way we are living life.
So maybe this post is a mayday call of sorts. For me personally, I need to open a door in myself and after studying psilocybin I’d love to explore potential (legal) therapy. Many people have become distant from any form of spirituality or recognition of consciouness. Yet we ingest a whole manner of poisons to self-sooth. Perhaps understandable, and I couldn’t get by without a dose of Gin.
I would like if any of you could point me in the direction of your favourite independent films.
I’ve been trying to track a movie down I saw about 8 years ago, regarding a CIA experiment where you play a signal, drink a fluid and you enter a different reality where something comes for you - does it ring any bells with anyone?
And I'd love to hear your thoughts or DMs should anything resonate.
Thank you for your time.
(Sorry for the essay, I should have made it a play!)
Hi Elle, I also think there's too much violence on tv and in movies. But that's what sells.
I also feel somewhat pessimistic about what's going on in the world and where humanity's headed.
You say "we ingest all manner of poisons". perhaps chief among them is the consumption of sugar in all it's forms.
I couldn't track down the movie you mention about the CIA and altered reality. However if you haven't already seen them you might be interested in these documentaries about CIA experiments.
"MKULTRA" and "THE MINDS OF MEN"

Elle,
I have a mixture of excitment and dread on what is coming during and (if we're around) after Ai. I imagine if we all become uploaded digital versions of ourselves we'll dive more into spirit, soul, consciousness, and what is reality-based stories. I love those now, but they don't seem to have mass appeal.
Some lower budget/indie flicks I enjoy (these aren't "new", so you may have seen them already):
the Before sunrise/sunset/midnight trilogy
your sister's sister
the end of the tour
hearts beat loud
kicking and screaming (1995...not the soccer one)
dead man
ride the eagle
broken flowers
waking life
safety not guaranteed
a girl walks into a bar
enjoy!
