Synopsis/Details

This script placed in the second round of the Austin Film Festival.

The script is also a loose sequel to the 1962 cult classic Carnival Of Souls which is in the public domain.

The screenplay is a combination of a meta and found-footage horror movie with the main characters making a found-footage sequel to Carnival Of Souls. Lines are further blurred between the film and film-within-the-film after the directors recruit the original movie’s last surviving main cast member Candace Hilligoss to appear in their version. The new movie’s finale then takes place at an abandoned carnival that they learn was a secret filming location for the original.

Essentially, A Return To A Carnival Of Souls takes the meta brilliance of the Scream series and fuses it with the found-footage chills of The Blair Witch Project franchise. This unique concept also already has a built-in audience due to the 1962 version’s growing fanbase, not to mention my script could be produced on a low budget.
