Zandra, a nun in San Juan, Puerto Rico grants her daughter Maya a wish on her birthday, and she decides to let her go to Los Angeles, California. Rather than letting her go alone, she allows a delivery boy named Antonio to accompany her and protect her from the residence. With his mission to protect her, Antonio takes her out to eat, gets her a new dress and dances with her. When the devil approaches Nick Valens, a deceased custodian and promises to leave him alone if he agrees to return to earth, in exchange for his eternal happiness with his wife, Brenda. Deep inside himself, Antonio's body is taken over by Nick, sent to corrupt her. Unable to do the job that the devil has sent him to do, Antonio starts a fight with a local gang member and is put in the hospital. A local nun named Carla shows up just in time to take Maya to a safer place from Antonio. The next day, Maya awakens from a nightmare and draws a mural in crayon on Carla's office wall. Seeing it as a prophetic dream and a warning, Carla sends Maya to another place with a local pastor named Tom. Tom alerts Maya that she is targeted because she is pure, and the devil wants to destroy that. Awake and aware of what he must do, Antonio kills Carla and goes after Maya. The police show up at the home of Marta, the homeowner and guardian of her underground sanctuary. When the police return with a warrant and search for Maya, they leave disappointed and don't succeed. Antonio shows up and takes Maya as his sacrifice. About to kill her, Antonio sees his dead sister and mother, causing him to think and is gunned down by the police. After the whole ordeal, Maya returns to her home in San Juan. While on an airplane, the devil proceeds to cause turbulence but is struck down, failing to do anymore harm. Maya is greeted by Zandra and goes home. In a dream, Maya visits Nick in a swamp and thanks him but while she is visiting him, she is really Dreya, a college student, living the young girl's life. Awake and relieved to be alive, Dreya learns the truth about Nick and Maya. Able to appreciate the people she has in her life, Dreya returns to school and finds peace by doing things for other people.
